THE PIPE Reviews:

August 2012 - The food is great. Better than awesome! No exceptions bar none. Chicken Tandoori is my favorite!

The ambience @ The Pipe REALLY IS like you're sitting in your best friend's living room rekindling old memories while you're happyily creating new ones over a wonderful, so tasty dinner. Nikk, the master chef is the connoisseur of all ingredients that make the perfect meal. Ummmm..., so tasty!

Take the time to get Nikk to sit down with you over a glass of fine wine: He's got all the advice you need to know about what you want to see and do in Zermatt and he's full of good stories about the locals too. (Ask him about Johnnie Swiss) - He's a master story-teller when he's not busy preparing you the best dinner you'll have in Zermatt!

And as a treat, you'll meet Diane, Nikk's partner in gourmet delicacies who is the sweetest, happiest lady you'll ever meet, so warm and friendly and full of stories herself..., Diane will put a smile on your face and leave you thinking: "What a wonderful girl!"

You really are in for a special time @ the pipe - enjoy the food..., enjoy the people and Guten Appetit... Bon App

Cheers!

I have been to The PIPE on a number of occasions during my skiing vacations in Zermatt which I would recommend to everyone. Last night I went for dinner and it was fantastic. I could see why anyone loves this restaurant. The price is fair for the quality. I will be a regular customer and I hope I can inspire some people to give this place a visit.

One of our favourites is the Pipe – a tiny place with interesting Asian/African/Caribbean fusion dishes, ‘still superb’ according to a reader last year.

Went Twice - Might Go Again! A Real Treasure!

The Pipe is a South African restaurant down in the village. It's a small place, easy to miss as you walk by. Upstairs you have a casual cafe style, downstairs is a bit cozier. As you walk in, you're consumed by the smell of curries, sit down to a glass of Pinotage and wait for your daily special of Kudu Entrecote, Ostrich Steak, Springbok Biryani, or Asian Duck with Dumplings.

We tried the Tandoori Sandwich and the Springbok Curry the first day. Both were excellent, the springbok was soooo tender - really spicy! We liked it so much we went back the next day. The Asian Duck was delicous and the Kudu was very tender, imported from South Africa. The ostrich sounded great as well, who knows, maybe we'll be back soon to try it!

Cozy place, pool table downstairs, but a warm environment for dinner for two or with friends. Expertly done food, highly recommended if you like something different sometimes.

Located a bit off the main street of Zermatt makes it a place you don't just stumble upon. But worth finding!
Low season made the place a bit quiet, but did not really reduce the experience.
South African menu, including loads of SA wines to choose from. 4 reds also possible to taste by the glass.
We tried Springbok curry, and also a more traditional Thai dish. Tasty!

Fab food

Your hosts at the Pipe are Nikk Vaughan and Diane Boeck and they know how to make you feel at home and serve you some of the best food in town.

We visit the Pipe regularly, and during our last visit there in January 2011, I had a very delicious cheeky duck salad, why cheeky ? Well under the succulent perfectly cooked rose duck breast slices, hid a salad, except it wasn't just a salad, one forkfull and the flavours from the dressing were competing in your mouth to win. For mains I had the Bushman steak, a succulent ostrich steak in a chocolate sauce served with a tasty mashed potato side. Hubby had the Chakra chicken served on a bed of rice and all of this served in an oven baked popadom basket.

But whatever you do, don't order the chocolate brownie :=) as I want to make sure there is a slice left for when I next go there. The light sponge with its toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream makes it the perfect dessert to round up your meal. I could not believe how light the brownie was.

The Pipe also do delicious lunches, incuding wraps, burgers etc... and for fine amateur cooks you can find a great variety of produce and ingredients which you can purchase from their deli section as well as sweets to take you back to your childhood.

A great relief from the usual... We stopped in here for lunch after para-glide with Bruno. Wonderful food, centrally located, good camaraderie. The lambburger was divine; also had the tandoori chicken.
