I am finalising my Switzerland trip itinerary and undecided on our final leg of the journey.
Stay in Interlaken as a base (we will be there 3 nights; 23/4 – 26/4) and depending on the weather forecast in Zermat on one of the days, do a day trip to Zermat, going on the 8 am train via Spiez – Visp – Zermatt route and come back late afternoon.
On 26/4, take late train to Geneva for our flight out to Amsterdam on 27/4 3.15 pm
Leave Interlaken to Zermatt on 25/4 8 am, spend a night there and take late train to Geneva on 26/4 for our flight out to Amsterdam on 27/4 @ 3.15 pm.
Spend 2 nights in Zermatt and take early morning train to Geneva on 27/4 instead. Hence we will have almost 2 full days in Zermatt but this also means we will miss having a glimpse of what Geneva has to offer.
I suggest the 2 night option in Zermatt. But then again, I can never get enough of Zermatt. – I lived there for 25 years – You’ll love it! One of the prettiest places you’ll ever see in the world. 2 days also gives you a better chance of seeing the Matterhorn in case on of the days is inclement.
Totally agree wtih Johnnie – 2 nights in Zermatt are better than one, not as good as 3 etc. For Geneva – it is a small city. If you leave Zermatt around 1400 on the day before your flight you will have all evening and almost all the next day (until at least 1300) before going to the airport. Train to the airport takes 6mins. If your destination is in Europe check in is normally 1 hour prior. you can see the old town, the parc des Bastions, the harbour etc easily on the morning you leave. Your Geneva hotel will give you a free transport pass as well. For sightseeing in Geneva go to the main Geneva forum page and click on the link about sightseeing there on the right hand tool bar of that page. print it out and take it with you.
